Revit using split wall in phases

One of  Revits drawbacks is the difficultly and intricacy in phasing partial demolition and additions / reconstruction of existing small and residential buildings. Particularly where the existing model elements such as walls and roofs are neatly joined up and trimmed and you dont want to loose this. The existing phase needs to show correctly after new phases have been added and parts demolished.

Treating the walls first inthis example we have a side wall that attaches and trims to the roofslope and front rear walls with triangular profile which in the new phase all change to a common eaves height with the rest of the structure.

It is possible by hit and miss to place split lines on elevations but the results are just that. The best way is to throw up sections on each wall to split vertically, place a ref plane or other geometry to snap to and then precisely place the split tool. The horizontal split places OK in plan.

Then copy in plan the triangular wall part a fixed distance say 10m and change its phase to new. Change the copied parts to demo and disppear (asuming now working in new phase). Move the copied parts back and lock align.

The roof I always copy the entire roof, demo the entire existing roof  and then modify the copied roof part inplace to the new roof form. The copied new wall parts can then be joined up to it with Attach Top
