A collection of problems and solutions I have encountered which take a bit of searching to find a solution. Frequently this reveals lots of suggested  complex fixes in forums when there may well be a simple fix. Typically the 404 error:

404 not found error. 

Dead easy! Go to Settings > Permalinks and Click "Save Changes". This update's permalinks settings and flushes rewrite rules.

REVIT filtering reference planes

How to simplify views with a lots of reference planes .... This arose from working on a project using phases for several options and locking objects within phases to ref planes in order easily modify design options (I don't use Revit Options - far too cumbersome and using phases to switch between options is far easier).

Export views on sheet without the sheet family

Thanks to Balázs Szilágyi for this posted on Revit Users Linkedin. 

The question posted was "EXPORTING REVIT FILE WITHOUT ALL SHEETS, VIEWS, DETAILS ETC ATTACHED" and is there a quick way to export stripped of content (sheets details and other views) that you dont want the receipient to see.

Balazs's very quick and simple method is to place the views on a blank sheet and then right click to "Save  to new file".  The new model file has the full model but without any views other than the blank sheet view. All the families not associated with the view (such as detail families, sheet families) are excluded. 

I did try this by saving from a proper sheet and it appeared even this sheet was excluded so no customised content needed to be stripped out. Many of us have built up sheet families highly customised which you wouldnt want anyone else to copy and alter for their own purposes.

Revit 2017 Libraries missing / incomplete

After installing 2017 the UK Content is missing (from ProgData\RVT2017|Libraries)

System Control > Progs and Features

Uninstall/Change Autodesk Revit 2017 Content Libraires

> Add and Remove Features

> Select UK

If the library is not available in the original install, there is an issue  discussed at Rev

Revit 2016 extensions

You wont find the Extensions add-on in the Subscriptions area anymore and the Autodesk Knowledge is not correct in directing you there.
With 2016 follow Start>Programs>Autodesk Applications Manager and there it is ready to download.

Windows 10 - Where has"recent docs" gone

Windows 7  - start panel had an option for showing most recent docs. Its missing from Win 10

Solution:  Regedit:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced:

Set Start_TrackDocs to "1"
If Start_TrackDocs is missing:      Add the Dword    "Start_TrackDocs"   (right click the Advanced Folder > "new" > "Dword." 
Enter  Value data as "1"

Revit 2015/16 and perspective line removal

Family Types Catalogue

Very simple way to selectively load family types without bloating with unused types.

In the family editor set up all the types but dont load directly into the project. Instead in the family editor export the Family Types to the same location as the family (it exports the catalog as a simple text file) and save the family before closing.
